Hi,

Sorry I'm late posting, I had to wait for my book to arrive. It got a little caught up in the mail. What I loved about this chapter is learning about all these different views. I believe that our DNA has a huge impact on who we are and how we interact with the world around us. I have met extended family members for the first time and have been stunned with how alike we are. I recently met my Aunt for the first time and found out that the way we handle stress is identical and our likes and dislikes are nearly identical. Are our wants in life predisposed before birth?

  1. Hi Nikki,
Your post reminds me of all those stories you hear about adopted children seeking out their birth parents or siblings after being separated their whole life, only to see how much they really have in common. I love those :) I think it is so interesting to see how both genetics and our environments play a part in who we become. I was reading ahead a little bit and the next chapter gets more in to the genetics and how the genes are expressed depending on the environment. I actually am looking forward to the reading in this course. Thanks for posting! Better late than never :)

  2. Hi Nikki,
I have had similar experience of meeting my half siblings for the first time in sixteen years. Although we had never met, had different mothers and living environments; we had many things in common. Not only do we look alike, we share many of the same likes and dislikes and even some of the same mannerisms. With that being said, after entering adulthood, we have completely different lifestyles. Our life choices, that I think were definitely influenced by our different environments, shaped us into the adults we are today, and we differ in many ways. Interesting how both DNA and environment shape us.

  3. Are some of the mannerisms that you see in your extended family due to the way your aunt and her siblings were raised that has to do with the similar mannerisms? When i say that I mean did the way your grandparents raised them carry on in to how you were raised?
